Final Fantasy Xi was realeased on May 16, 2002 on Japan. A year before that. a closed beta was organised by Squaresoft in August 2001. A special box like these allowed selected people to enter in the closed beta. A public beta test was donne on december 2001.
In fact, box on the left, Playonline beta edition, was only for Playonline beta test. Box on the right, beta 2 edition, content Final Fantasy XI beta version.
It’s a really rare Final Fantasy XI item, and a memorial item now, with Playstation 2 server shutting down.
